Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Machledt and sons were in Indianapolis, Tues. to attend the funeral of Mrs. Machledt's father, George Hendryx.
The following sketch of his life is from the News.
Funeral services for George Waller Hendryx, age 83 a pioneer miller in Indiana and Civil War veteran who died Sun. at his home, 2602 N. New Jersey St, following a short illness will be held at 2 p.m. at the home.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Hendryx was born in Putnamville in 1844 the son of Hannah Waller and John Honey Hendryx, pioneer residents of Indiana.
They came to Putnamville from Ky. in 1830.
In 1866 he married Sarah Jane Farrows.
They observed their 61st wedding anniversary last Jan.
He served with the 116th In Vol. in the Civil War, and was a member of the George H. Thomas Post Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and the Broadway Methodist Episcopal Church.
At the time of his death he was employed as a guard at the Soldiers and Sailors' monument.
Besides the widow he is survived by two sons, James of Louisville and John Clifford of Indianapolis and four daughters, Mrs. James Sutherland, Indianapolis; Mrs. Thomas Hopkins Syracuse, NY; Mrs. Thomas Rutherford Columbus Oh; and Mrs. Harry Machledt Waveland. - typed by kbz
